Phil Balsley is an American singer and songwriter best known as a member of the country music group The Statler Brothers. He was born on August 8, 1939 in Staunton, Virginia. Balsley began his career in music in the 1950s, playing guitar and singing with local bands in the Staunton area. In 1960, he joined The Statler Brothers, a quartet that included his brother Harold, Lew DeWitt, and Don Reid. The group went on to become one of the most successful country music acts of all time, with Balsley playing a key role in their success. Balsley wrote or co-wrote several of the group's hits, including "Flowers on the Wall," "Do You Remember These," and "Bed of Rose's." He also sang lead vocals on several of their songs, including "Do You Know You Are My Sunshine" and "Elizabeth." Balsley retired from The Statler Brothers in 2002, after more than 40 years with the group. He has since continued to perform occasionally with the group, and has also released several solo albums. Balsley is married to his wife, Linda, and has two children. He currently resides in Staunton, Virginia.
